APRILグループは2018年版サステナビリティレポートを発表した。これは、当社が同年内の実施に取り組んだ持続可能性に関する包括的なレビューとなります。

APRILグループ社長Praveen Singhaviのオープニング メッセージの概要は次の通りです。

2018年は急速なグローバルな力学の進展した年であった。気候変動、そして緊急を要する持続可能性へのグローバルな集団行動、これら双方の影響への意識が高まる中で、当社の重要市場での消費者需要は伸びを示しました。

世界のコミュニティを支援するための17の持続可能発展戦略(SDGs)に向けて、企業が重要な役割を担わなければならないという期待とグローバルな気候目標が、持続可能性意識においての中心課題になっています。

これに関連して、全体的アプローチモデルにより実証済みである、より長期の持続可能ビジネスとコミュニティ開発のために、APRILグループを含む企業は、現行の取組み以上の進展と適合する取組みを促進しています。

Sustainable Forest Management Policy (SFMP) 2.0により供与された、しっかりとした基盤を構築することにより、我々はこのチャレンジに取組みました。その一方で、コミュニティ、気候、顧客、国、当社にとっての課題部分に、当社の創立者の5Csビジョンに見合う方法により、今後どのように対応して解決していくのか考慮しました。

SFMP 2.0やその自主的な監視の実施が当社にとって重大な局面に迫る状況は、当社の関与をより拡張する絶好の機会です。

当社のサプライ・チェーンを繋ぐ持続可能な森林運営にとって、さらに新たなものを組み込んでいくアプローチは重要なステップとなります。持続可能性プロフェッショナル、林学専門家、科学者、および研究人員を含む、当社の持続可能性チームは機能別方法により運営しています。

当社はPwC社と共同で、SDGsを枠組として使用し、そしてリアオ州における基本インパクト調査の詳細なアセスメントを含む核となるプロジェクトの最初のフェーズを完了しました。

このプロセスの価値は、重要なインパクトがあり最も多くの可能性を持っているリアオ州とコミュニティにおいて、そのゴールと目標を明確にすることです。これは、当社が関与した、また最も重要と考える場所におけるニーズの評価に基づいた調査になります。

A2018年内のもう一つの画期的なイベントは、Restorasi Ekosistem Riau (RER)を通しての生態系復元への取組み5周年記念日でした。当社は、これをアジアできわめて重要なピート地帯の生態系の保全と復元への協力の最もよい取組みの1つであると確信しています。

RERのための包括的アプローチは、国連が「生態系復元の10年」を強力に推進するように、今後、引続き実施可能なモデルを作り上げました。当社の関心は、学んだ知識とレッスンを伝達し共有することにあります。

科学と研究は当社の取組みに見合う根本理念です。2018年内においては、当社の独立アドバイザーと共に、特に、インディペンデント・ピートエキスパート・ワーキンググループ(IPEWG)を通じて科学分野に当社内で投資を継続しました。

今年のサステナビリティレポートも、業務効率化において、特にエネルギーや水・利用、可能エネルギー源利用の増加などAPRILの継続的な改善に配慮したものになっています。
改善への渇望は、世界で最も効率がよく、最も自給自足が可能な当社の生産施設を維持するための重要な要点とも言えます。

当社は持続可能な森林運営方針の実行についての取組みを引き続き行います。そして、今後も独立した検証と当社の進捗状況の透明性に係る改善を継続して実施します。また、当社は科学的に立証されている季候目標の内の2030年ゴールに見合う、重要となるグローバルな任務に応える必要性を認識しています。

これに関連して、持続性へのアプローチをどのように展開していくのか、また、世界的な要請に沿った現行の取組み以上のものを達成するための当社の企業努力について、今後報告していきます。当社はこの機会について高揚し、持続性ビジョンを進展し続けるために投資家と共に協力することを心待ちにしています。

APRIL follows the international GHG protocol as developed by WRI/WBCSD to develop its emissions profile. The emissions boundary scope covers gate-to-gate (wood processing in wood yard until pulp, paper and viscose production) of the three main GHGs: CO2, CH4, and N2O.

Method

To quantify the total GHG emission and removals across APRIL’s land bank from land use, APRIL follows the GHG Protocol Agricultural Guidance and IPCC Guidelines for Agricultural, Forestry, and Other Land Use. To detect the land cover change within the look-back period, i.e. 20 years APRIL utilized the remotely sensed data.

The GHG emission will be calculated as the total of carbon stock changes in woody biomass and soil organic carbon and include all major carbon fluxes such as peat decomposition, plantation growth and harvesting, and fires.

To quantify the amount of carbon unit to balance the emission, the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standards (CCB), or other internationally accepted standard will be used.
