Sustainability Approach
Sustainability is a catalyst for company-wide transformation. It underpins our growth strategy as we continue to strive to make more positive, impacts on climate, nature and people.
JOURNEY TO IMPACT
Our Sustainability Journey
Sustainability is integrated into every part of our business – shaping how we grow and evolve to meet market needs while delivering positive impacts for climate, nature and people.
At APRIL, through our Production-Protection approach, we conserve, protect and restore 470,000ha of biodiverse natural forest, including approximately 150,000 hectares at Restorasi Ekosistem Riau (RER). We are 76% of the way to meeting our commitment to conserve one hectare of forest for every hectare of plantation we manage.
We are also tackling climate change by decarbonising our operations, transitioning to renewable energy sources, advancing peatland science for tropical peatland and achieving net zero emissions from land use. We are working to achieve 19 targets set out in our APRIL2030 commitments launched in 2020. We are ensuring local communities benefit from our progress by creating sustainable livelihoods and improving lives through better healthcare, education and eradication of poverty.
JOURNEY TO IMPACT
How Do We Ensure We’re on the Right Path?
We have a purpose statement that clearly outlines the sustainable impact we want to achieve. There are three steps. The first covers our approach—this is the way we use policies, solid governance, and responsible risk management to embed and manage our sustainability agenda across the business. The second is our strategy, which sets actions we must take to meet our commitments around forest protection, conservation, restoration, human rights and more. Performance is the third step, and this shows how we implement, measure and report progress towards our goals.
