Our Transformation Journey
2020 was a catalyst year. We launched our APRIL2030 commitments and targets to build on our existing sustainability commitments. This included science-based targets across four key impact areas: Climate, Nature, People, and Sustainable Growth.
CLIMATE
Climate Positive
We have created a roadmap to help us achieve net zero emissions from land use by 2030. We are strengthening decarbonisation efforts across our operations through conservation and restoration and reduced emissions. At our integrated mill operation effective energy management and transition to renewable energy sources is a major driver of carbon reduction efforts.
We have adopted a dual mitigation-and-adaptation approach to climate-change action, ensuring we can contribute to global efforts to mitigate global warming.
NATURE
Thriving Landscapes
We protect and nurture the natural environment through our production-protection approach. This entails upholding our commitment to zero-deforestation, improving our sustainable forest management practices, protecting and restoring large areas of forest and maintaining natural carbon sinks. These actions also contribute to Indonesia’s national climate-action efforts, such as its FOLU Net Sink 2030 targets.
PEOPLE
Inclusive Progress
We recognise the broader social context in which we operate and strive to effect positive social change. Our Community Development teams engage with neighbouring communities to address important socio-economic issues, such as poverty eradication, access to education, healthcare and improved livelihoods, in villages surrounding our operational areas. We assess our social and community impact annually to honep programmes that address specific needs.
SUSTAINABLE GROWTH
Business Efficiency
We focus on efficient resource use and circular production as part of our commitment to clean manufacturing practices, to minimise waste, conserve water, and optimise resource and chemical recovery. We adhere to local environmental regulations and global industry standards, guidelines, and best practices governing manufacturing and water, chemical, and waste management.
