We consider conservation as an investment, not a cost. We champion conservation as part of our Production-Protection landscape management approach.

Community Conservation
In 2022, APRIL established partnerships with four villages neighbouring our operational areas to support community forest conservation – Pelalawan, Teluk Meranti, Pulau Muda and Penyengat.
We give each village a US$ 10,000 annual holding fund to protect a designated forest area through boundary marking, signboard installation, restoration and enrichment activities, agroforestry, joint patrols, identification of non-timber forest products (NTFP) to monetise, and community engagement.
Our long-term goal is to expand community conservation efforts to 100,000 hectares by 2030.
Financing Conservation
In 2020, we established a financial mechanism linking fibre supply to our work on conservation and restoration. For every tonne of plantation wood delivered to the mill, APRIL assigns a dollar to conservation work.
This unique internal levy means we have been able to allocate approximately US$75 million for conservation since 2020.
This means that all parts of the business, including the finance teams and operational departments, have a stake in the company’s investments in the natural landscapes we manage as well as in conservation projects beyond our boundaries
