“Kami mesti mendengarkan anak-anak kami.” Bagi Pak Musri, Kepala Desa Teluk Binjau, ini merupakan sebuah penjelasan yang sederhana dan menarik tentang pentingnya Program Sekolah Desa Bebas Api APRIL dan perannya dalam mencegah terjadinya kebakaran di Provinsi Riau.

 

Program di sekolah-sekolah ini diluncurkan tahun lalu sebagai salah satu upaya penumbuhan kesadaran masyarakat dalam Program Desa Bebas Api (Fire Free Village Programme). Pada tahun 2016, program ini telah menjangkau 2.513 anak di 50 sekolah dasar di seluruh Provinsi Riau, dan memberikan dampak positif sebagaimana dipaparkan dalam Tinjauan Carbon Conservation (CC) atas FFVP tahun lalu. 18 dari sekolah yang dikunjungi merupakan desa-desa yang telah berpartisipasi dalam FFVP dan sisanya masuk ke dalam program Masyarakat Peduli Api (Fire Aware Communities).

Program ini dilanjutkan pada tahun 2017, dengan tambahan lebih dari 1.944 anak dari 28 sekolah dasar yang belajar mengenai pentingnya bentang alam yang bebas dari api sebagai bagian dari materi pelajaran umum dan membawa pesan tersebut pulang ke rumah untuk didiskusikan dengan keluarganya. Pada akhir tahun ini, versi lain dari program ini akan dilakukan di 18 sekolah mengengah pertama (SMP) di Provinsi Riau.

Program sekolah ini diprakarsai oleh APRIL pada akhir tahun 2015 ketika tim komunikasi korporat APRIL dan tim pengembangan masyarakat bekerja sama dengan Blue Green, sebuah LSM berbasis di Pekanbaru, dan mengajukan kepada Kementerian Pendidikan agar program ini akan menjadi bagian dari silabus sekolah di Provinsi Riau. Pengajuan ini mendapatkan persetujuan yang cepat dari pejabat Kementerian Pendidikan ketika mereka mempelajari bahwa kegiatan ini merupakan bagian dari misi jangka panjang untuk mencegah kebakaran dan kabut asap di Riau.

Di program inti untuk siswa SD, terdapat sebuah komik yang menarik perhatian siswa-siswa dan membantu mereka untuk mengapresiasi pentingnya isu ini dan keuntungan dari bentang alam yang bebas api.

“Buku cerita komik tersbut menjadi penting karena kami perlu berbicara kepada anak-anak dalam bahasa mereka, namun kami juga butuh mereka untuk memahami isu ini seperti layaknya Pemerintah, LSM-LSM, dan guru-guru” ujar Sailal Arimi, Manajer Pencegahan Kebakaran APRIL, yang memimpin kerja tim dengan Blue Green.

Komik tersebut menampilkan karakter Bunga (“Flower Girl”) dan Alam (“Nature Boy”) yang menggambarkan sebuah cerita tentang dampak dari kebakaran terhadap kesehatan dan kegiatan belajar mereka dan bagaimana tidak melakukan pembakaran merupakan solusi untuk mencegah kebakaran dan kabut asap.

Meskipun demikian, Sailal menjelaskan bahwa pesan-pesan tersebut tidak hanya ditujukan kepada siswa-siswa. “Kami tahu bahwa anak-anak dapat menjadi pengaruh besar bagi orang tuanya dan bahwa mereka akan pulang ke rumah dan berkata ‘tolong berhenti membakar.’ Saya pikir itu akan menjadi sebuah percakapan yang emosional,” ujarnya.

Tim Blue Green mengunjungi sejumlah sekolah dasar setiap harinya bersama dengan Riana Ekawati, anggota tim FFVP APRIL. Kunjungan tersebut termasuk mengajari tentang isu-isu kelestarian lingkungan, bagaimana kebakaran mengancam hewan-hewan, dan bahaya dari kabut asap dan buruknya kualitas udara terhadap kesehatan manusia. Pada akhir kunjungan, anak-anak dipersilahkan untuk menggambar sebuah poster yang mencerminkan pengalaman mereka dengan kebakaran dan kabut asap.

Seminggu atau dua minggu kemudian, sekolah-sekolah tersebut dikunjungi kembali untuk melihat poster-poster yang telah dibuat oleh anak-anak dan memberikan hadiah bagi pemenangnya. “Ketika kami melihat poster-poster yang dibuat, kami sangat senang dan terkejut pada bagaimana mereka memahami permasalahan ini. Terlihat jelas bahwa anak-anak sangat tertarik dengan isu ini,” ungkap Sailal.

Di bulan Agustus dan September, program ini akan beranjak ke fase dengan target sekolah menengah pertama (SMP). Beberapa film pendek telah dikembangkan ketimbang buku komik dan poster, siswa-siswa di jenjang pendidikan yang lebih tinggi ini akan diminta untuk membuat esai untuk memaparkan pemahaman mereka mengenai pentingnya pencegahan kebakaran dan kabut asap.

Sailal mengungkapkan bahwa perusahaan akan melanjutkan program ini dengan tidak hanya fokus pada anak-anak dan keluarganya, namun juga membantu para guru untuk memahami bagaimana cara terbaik untuk menyampaikan pengajaran pencegahan kebakaran sebagai bagian dari tanggung jawab mereka yang berkelanjutan. Edukasi pada generasi muda juga membantu dalam mengganti pola pikir dan praktik lama tentang membakar untuk membuka lahan. Hal ini penting untuk menciptakan perubahan dalam jangka panjang.

Bagi Pak Musri, pentingnya program ini telah terbukti: “Jika kita menjelaskan hukum dan undang-undang kepada anak-anak, mereka tidak akan mengerti – namun dengan melaksanakan program-program seperti ini, mereka akan paham. Mereka akan membantu kita untuk menciptakan masa depan yang bebas api.”

Waste disposed is recorded through various means of measurement including estimation of weight by waste type. Particular waste types as described above are measured as a wet waste and converted to a bone dry (BD) weight. The wet waste weight is multiplied by the consistency of each waste type to determine the BD. The consistency is predetermined by the lab.

Method

To quantify the total GHG emission and removals across APRIL’s land bank from land use, APRIL follows the GHG Protocol Agricultural Guidance and IPCC Guidelines for Agricultural, Forestry, and Other Land Use. To detect the land cover change within the look-back period, i.e. 20 years APRIL utilized the remotely sensed data.

The GHG emission will be calculated as the total of carbon stock changes in woody biomass and soil organic carbon and include all major carbon fluxes such as peat decomposition, plantation growth and harvesting, and fires.

To quantify the amount of carbon unit to balance the emission, the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standards (CCB), or other internationally accepted standard will be used.
