Di balik senyuman hangat dan sifat lembut Itsna Lathifah Lasmaretty dan Sri Wahdini Rahmi, terdapat keberanian, ambisi dan kualitas kepemimpinan yang dibutuhkan untuk meraih posisi tinggi di salah satu perusahaan pulp dan kertas terbesar di dunia.

Dalam kurun waktu kurang dari 10 tahun bekerja di industri kehutanan yang didomininasi oleh laki-laki, baik Itsna, Kepala Area Penilaian Kualitas Proses dan Produk Pulp di Departemen Teknik, maupun Sri, Continuous Improvement Champion, menduduki tingkat manajemen menengah di unit operasi APRIL, PT. Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper (RAPP), bekerja di daerah  pedesaan Provinsi Riau.

Sebagai salah satu produsen pulp dan kertas terbesar di Indonesia, APRIL bekerja untuk berkontribusi pada pencapaian pemerintah Indonesia atas Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (Sustainable Development Goals/SDGs).

SDGs adalah serangkaian tujuan, target, dan indikator yang diadopsi oleh negara-negara anggota Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa (PBB) untuk menyusun agenda mereka selama 15 tahun ke depan guna mengentaskan segala bentuk kemiskinan, melawan ketidaksetaraan, dan mengatasi perubahan iklim. Tujuan ke-5 berusaha untuk mencapai kesetaraan gender dan pemberdayaan perempuan.

Itsna bertanggung jawab atas strategi-strategi kualitas produksi, sementara Sri meninjau sejumlah departemen untuk memeriksa bahwa produktivitas kerja dan standar-standar efisiensi terpenuhi. Itsna mengelola sebuah tim yang beranggotakan 30 teknisi, yang mayoritas laki-laki , sementara Sri memimpin empat rekan kerjanya.

Saat ini 89% tenaga kerja APRIL adalah laki-laki, mencerminkan komposisi tenaga kerja industri kehutanan global, sebagaimana dijabarkan dalam laporan  organisasi PBB Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Lokasi kerja yang terpencil di Kabupaten Pelalawan, Provinsi Riau, telah mendorong APRIL untuk membangun sebuah pusat pelatihan dan sejumlah program di lokasi untuk meningkatkan keterampilan masyarakat setempat serta mengajak lebih banyak talenta-talenta lokal untuk bekerja dengan perusahaan.

Jalur karir kedua wanita ini  memiliki alur yang serupa, keduanya bergabung sebagai graduate trainee dengan gelar di bidang kimia. Setelah dua tahun bekerja dan menyelesaikan program graduate trainee, mereka dipilih untuk mengikuti Program Magister di Asian Institute of Technology di Bangkok, Thailand.

Namun tidak selamanya perjalanan mereka mulus karena terdapat sejumlah tantangan yang harus dihadapi. Itsna menyebutkan bahwa ibunya meminta agar ia tidak lanjut bekerja di perusahaan karena sang ibu khawatir dengan keamanan anak perempuannya mengingat ia bekerja juga untuk shift pekerjaan malam.

“Pada awalnya, saya mulai jadwal kerja malam  pada pukul 11 malam dan selesai pada pukul 7 pagi; hal tersebut membuat ibu saya khawatir atas keamanan saya. Kekhawatiran ibu saya dapat dimengerti,” ujar Itsna, 35 tahun. “Bahkan meskipun pada waktu itu tidak banyak perempuan yang bekerja di sana, saya merasa aman karena petugas keamanan menjaga  kami.”

Sri menghadapi tantangan yang berbeda: persepsi budaya tentang peran perempuan. Ia menjelaskan: “Karena pekerjaan saya melibatkan banyak koordinasi dan memberikan instruksi-instruksi, beberapa laki-laki sulit menerima bahwa seorang perempuan memberitahukan apa yang harus mereka lakukan.”

Sri Rahmi Wahdini, Continuous Improvement Champion, di salah satu lokasi kerjanya.

“Jadi, saya mengkhususkan waktu untuk membangun rasa percaya,” katanya, ia menambahkan: “Saya menunjukkan kepada mereka bahwa saya kompeten dalam pekerjaan saya, siap  kerja sama dengan mereka dan selalu siap untuk memberikan bantuan.”

Demikian pula, Itsna mengatakan bahwa ia harus berusaha  untuk mendapatkan kepercayaan dari rekan kerja laki-lakinya. “Di tahun-tahun awal, saya bahkan mengerjakan notulen rapat untuk menunjukkan bahwa saya berdedikasi dan kooperatif, namun hal itu juga karena saya sangat ingin mempelajari pekerjaan saya,” ujarnya.

Para pemimpin ini  tidak berpikir dua kali untuk senantiasa terjun langsung dilapangan    untuk mengumpulkan sampel-sampel atau memeriksa pengukuran-pengukuran instrumen.

Kata Itsna: “Saya berdialog  dengan para teknisi untuk memahami kendala mereka dan menunjukkan pada mereka bahwa saya tertarik dengan apa yang mereka kerjakan. Hal ini membantu karena, bagaimanapun juga, dibutuhkan kerja tim dalam  menjalankan industri pulp, jadi kita harus membangun hubungan yang lebih baik.”

Kini, keduanya melihat lebih banyak perempuan yang terjun ke industri ini. “Ini adalah tren yang bagus karena perempuan memiliki sejumlah keterampilan yang berbeda; beberapa cenderung lebih hati-hati dan teliti, dan ini dapat melengkapi keterampilan rekan kerja laki-laki mereka,” kata Sri, 34 tahun.

Memang, bagi Itsna dan Sri, bukan hanya komitmen atas pekerjaan yang membuat mereka menjadi pemimpin perempuan yang sukses tapi juga karena komitmen mereka untuk terus belajar dan tekad kuat untuk menunjukkan bahwa mereka adalah manajer yang cakap dalam industri kehutanan yang kompetitif.

Method

To quantify the total GHG emission and removals across APRIL’s land bank from land use, APRIL follows the GHG Protocol Agricultural Guidance and IPCC Guidelines for Agricultural, Forestry, and Other Land Use. To detect the land cover change within the look-back period, i.e. 20 years APRIL utilized the remotely sensed data.

The GHG emission will be calculated as the total of carbon stock changes in woody biomass and soil organic carbon and include all major carbon fluxes such as peat decomposition, plantation growth and harvesting, and fires.

To quantify the amount of carbon unit to balance the emission, the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standards (CCB), or other internationally accepted standard will be used.
