Grup APRIL telah mempublikasikan Laporan Keberlanjutan terkini, yang memberikan tinjauan mendalam mengenai kemajuan yang telah dicapai selama tahun 2017 terhadap pelaksanaan komitmen keberlanjutan perusahaan. Dalam pengantar laporan, Praveen Singhavi, Presiden, APRIL Group, memberikan pesan pembukanya sebagai berikut.

Tahun yang telah dilakukan tinjauan, memiliki karakter kemajuan yang sangat pesat dalam mengatasi tantangan dalam rangka penerapan Kebijakan Pengelolaan Hutan Berkelanjutan (SFMP) di lapangan, yang kami yakini sebagai hal paling penting. Bagi APRIL dan banyak sektor korporasi global lainnya, sejalan dengan kebijakan, praktik, dan tujuan dari Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) yang ditetapkan oleh Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa, kami sangat menyadari bahwa sebagai organisasi yang didorong dengan suatu tujuan, baru dapat diperhitungkan apabila jelas terlihat tindakan yang kita lakukan.

Kemajuan yang stabil dan berkelanjutan, dalam pandangan kami, lebih penting daripada hanya sekedar pernyataan atau lompatan besar ke depan. Kami terus membentuk kebijakan, proses, dan tindakan kami untuk memastikan kami sejalan dengan harapan yang lebih luas dari para pemangku kepentingan utama kami. Mereka berharap bahwa suatu kemajuan dapat terdorong melalui ketekunan, inovasi dan pengetahuan praktis, namun juga hendaknya berdasarkan atas ilmu pengetahuan, dilakukan dalam kerangka kerja yang etis dan juga bertanggung jawab. Kerangka tersebut juga harus mencakup suatu kebenaran bahwa APRIL tidak dapat mencapai semua tujuan sendiri – namun melalui kemitraan, kolaborasi, transparansi, dan keterlibatan adalah kunci.

Ketika kami memulai proses formal untuk mengidentifikasi dan lebih menyelaraskan pendekatan kami dengan SDG juga berkonsultasi dengan PwC, kami berpegang teguh pada komitmen kami yaitu nol deforestasi serta tidak dilakukan pengembangan baru di lahan gambut, pada seluruh rantai pasokan kami. Yang terpenting adalah jaminan dari pihak ketiga seperti KPMG, yang memberikan laporan kepada Komite Penasihat Stakeholder (SAC) dan dirilis kepada publik, telah membuktikan kepatuhan kami terhadap komitmen ini dan juga komitmen mendasar lainnya, sebagaimana kami mendorong praktik terbaik untuk lebih dekat hingga ujung rantai pasokan kami.

Saat ini kami mengimplementasikan Peta Jalan Lahan Gambut, yang disusun bersama Kelompok Kerja Pakar Gambut Independen (IPEWG). Sebagai bagian dari hal tersebut, APRIL telah membangun menara flux state-of-the-art di daerah konsesi perkebunan, restorasi, dan mixed use concession area. Menara ini akan memberikan data tentang emisi gas rumah kaca dan tingkat penyerapan. Data ini akan menginformasikan target dan aksi mitigasi emisi kami di seluruh lanskap. Kami juga terus mengerjakan proyek restorasi skala lanskap melalui Restorasi Ekosistem Riau (RER). RER adalah bagian dari serangkaian kegiatan konservasi yang lebih luas, yang dilakukan di seluruh konsesi kami bersama para mitra pemasok kami, yang telah membantu kami untuk  meningkatkan komitmen untuk memiliki satu hektar kawasan konservasi untuk setiap hektar lahan perkebunan. Sepanjang tahun ini, kami terus mendorong dengan Program Desa Bebas Api (FFVP), dukungan kami terhadap Fire Free Alliance (FFA) yang lebih luas melibatkan lebih banyak perusahaan serta mempertahankan kapabilitas pemadam kebakaran kelas dunia.

Untuk kami terus berkembang secara komersial, kami semakin mengintegrasikan konsep keberlanjutan dalam operasi kami dengan menggerakkan fokus bisnis dari volume ke nilai, menggabungkan diversifikasi dan inovasi produk hilir. Inisiatif bisnis ini adalah langkah penting kami untuk memastikan bahwa kami tidak hanya memenuhi komitmen lingkungan namum juga terus memberikan peluang mata pencaharian kepada ribuan orang yang bergantung pada APRIL untuk bekerja, menjalani karirnya, dan memberikan dukungan untuk masyarakat di bidang pendidikan, kesehatan dan infrastruktur sosial.

Dalam Laporan Keberlanjutan kami yang terakhir, saya merefleksikan perlunya keberlanjutan untuk di lakukan dari tingkat atas. Mengingat hal tersebut, apa yang ada di pemikiran saya tahun ini adalah bagaimana seluruh organisasi dari atas hingga akar  kepada mitra dan masyarakat, dapat termotivasi untuk membuat suatu perubahan. Sepanjang tahun ini kami mendapat banyak manfaat dari para ahli, perspektif kritis, dan wawasan yang diberikan oleh penasihat dan mitra kami. Yang terpenting adalah dengan banyaknya interaksi akan memberikan suatu pelajaran bagaimana APRI dapat berbagi pemahaman terhadap tentang operasi kami.

Kami adalah organisasi yang memiliki semangat untuk selalu berpegang teguh kepada komitmen kami – yang kami anggap benar untuk di lakukan, suatu yang kami harapkan dan sejatinya bagaimana bisnis yang baik untuk dijalankan. Dengan bangga saya melaporkan bahwa tahun 2017 untuk kami adalah tahun dimana kami fokus terhadap hal tersebut – di mana kami bekerja keras dan terus melangkah maju dalam menjalankan prinsip-prinsip kami, bahwa apa yang baik untuk Perusahaan juga harus baik untuk Negara, Komunitas, Iklim dan Pelanggan.

The emissions boundary scope covers gate-to-gate (wood processing in wood yard until pulp, paper and viscose production) of the three main GHGs: CO2, CH4, and N2O.

Method

To quantify the total GHG emission and removals across APRIL’s land bank from land use, APRIL follows the GHG Protocol Agricultural Guidance and IPCC Guidelines for Agricultural, Forestry, and Other Land Use. To detect the land cover change within the look-back period, i.e. 20 years APRIL utilized the remotely sensed data.

The GHG emission will be calculated as the total of carbon stock changes in woody biomass and soil organic carbon and include all major carbon fluxes such as peat decomposition, plantation growth and harvesting, and fires.

To quantify the amount of carbon unit to balance the emission, the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standards (CCB), or other internationally accepted standard will be used.
