Grup APRIL merilis Laporan Keberlanjutan 2019, yang memaparkan kemajuan dan kinerja perusahaan dalam mewujudkan komitmen keberlanjutan. Berikut adalah pesan singkat dari Presiden Grup APRIL, Praveen Singhavi.

Bagi sebagian besar dari kita, kegiatan bisnis secara normal di tahun 2019 telah menjadi kenangan. Kini, seluruh dunia tengah berusaha untuk mengatasi pandemi COVID-19 dan memulihkan ekonomi yang terdampak akibat kondisi ini.

Tantangan-tantangan baru ini justru semakin menegaskan komitmen APRIL untuk berinvestasi dalam sumber daya alam serta program berbasis sains lainnya demi menuju ekonomi rendah karbon, bentang alam yang berkembang, kemajuan inklusif untuk masyarakat, dan pertumbuhan berkelanjutan untuk bisnis kita.

Kami yakin, ada hikmah yang dapat diambil dari masa pandemi yang kita alami. Kami berharap, situasi sulit ini mendorong upaya kolaboratif baru di seluruh lapisan masyarakat dalam menghadapi tantangan yang tidak berkesudahan dan terus mengutamakan pendekatan berbasis sains.

Saat ini, kesadaran untuk menjaga lingkungan dan pembangunan berkelanjutan secara berdampingan sangatlah kuat. Melihat hal tersebut, kami menilai bahwa tahun 2019 adalah tahun dimana kami mencatatkan kemajuan yang signifikan dan tetap berpegang teguh pada komitmen Kebijakan Pengelolaan Hutan Berkelanjutan 2.0. Diantaranya, keberhasilan memajukan pemahaman berbasis sains tentang bentang alam lahan gambut tropis, dan memastikan investasi serta tindakan perusahaan terkait langsung dengan Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (SDGs).

Sepanjang tahun lalu, bersama dengan konsultan independen, Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC), kami telah menyelesaikan proses identifikasi tujuh prioritas tujuan SDGs yang berkaitan langsung dengan kegiatan bisnis Grup APRIL dan berpengaruh signifikan terhadap wilayah kami beroperasi di Provinsi Riau. SDGs yang kami identifikasi terdiri dari tiga tujuan inti dan empat tujuan katalitik, yang kami percayai terkait langsung dengan bisnis kami dan dapat membawa perubahan besar. Hasil dari proses penyelarasan SDGs dan komponen model produksi-proteksi kami dipresentasikan pada Konferensi Perubahan Iklim PBB 2019 (COP 25)di Madrid, dan kepada komunitas bisnis Indonesia yang lebih luas di Kamar Dagang dan Industri Indonesia.

Tim riset dan pengembangan kami telah menyelesaikan program penelitian penting tentang peningkatan kualitas pohon, teknologi serat, manajemen pengelolaan hutan industri, ilmu tanah dan kesehatan tanaman. Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk membantu meningkatkan pengetahuan mengenai tiga bidang utama ilmu lahan gambut tropis, yakni fluktuasi emisi gas rumah kaca, pengelolaan sumber daya air, dan penurunan air muka tanah.

Pada tingkat masyarakat, di tahun lalu kami telah menyelesaikan proyek prasarana sosial, mendanai beasiswa sekolah menengah dan memberi sumbangsih untuk peningkatan kesehatan masyarakat yang lebih baik. Kami juga membantu meningkatkan kelayakan dan keberhasilan usaha kecil dan menengah serta membantu para petani setempat melalui penyediaan peralatan dan keterampilan pertanian berkelanjutan.

Dengan bangga saya melaporkan bahwa komitmen Grup APRIL untuk bisnis yang berkelanjutan, transparan dan berbasis SDGs mendapat pengakuan di ajang penghargaan Sustainable Business Awards Indonesia 2019, di mana kami menerima beberapa penghargaan dan dinyatakan sebagai Juara Umum.

Tahun 2019 adalah tahun yang produktif dalam aspek keberlanjutan bagi kami. Kami menyadari bahwa perhatian dunia dan korporasi saat ini sepenuhnya ditujukan pada apa yang dapat dicapai dalam satu dasawarsa berikutnya, di tahun 2030. Oleh karena itu, pada 2019, kami mulai merancang komitmen perusahaan selanjutnya, termasuk memilih sasaran yang berbasis sains untuk iklim, perlindungan alam serta kemajuan inklusif bagi semua. Kami berharap di laporan tahun 2020 nanti, kami dapat melaporkan usaha-usaha kami dan kembali melampaui komitmen dalam mendukung Indonesia mengatasi perubahan iklim serta agenda pembangunan negara.

Waste disposed is recorded through various means of measurement including estimation of weight by waste type. Particular waste types as described above are measured as a wet waste and converted to a bone dry (BD) weight. The wet waste weight is multiplied by the consistency of each waste type to determine the BD. The consistency is predetermined by the lab.

APRIL follows the international GHG protocol as developed by WRI/WBCSD to develop its emissions profile. The total emissions measured as emissions intensity is calculated based on tonnes of Scope 1 and 2 Mill Greenhouse Gas Emissions per tonne of product (paper, pulp and viscose). The emissions boundary scope covers gate-to-gate (wood processing in wood yard until pulp, paper and viscose production) of the three main GHGs: CO2, CH4, and N2O.

Method

To quantify the total GHG emission and removals across APRIL’s land bank from land use, APRIL follows the GHG Protocol Agricultural Guidance and IPCC Guidelines for Agricultural, Forestry, and Other Land Use. To detect the land cover change within the look-back period, i.e. 20 years APRIL utilized the remotely sensed data.

The GHG emission will be calculated as the total of carbon stock changes in woody biomass and soil organic carbon and include all major carbon fluxes such as peat decomposition, plantation growth and harvesting, and fires.

To quantify the amount of carbon unit to balance the emission, the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standards (CCB), or other internationally accepted standard will be used.
