ローソン氏は、一般によく知られた国際的な林学者です。2013年で定年を迎えるまで、米ミードウェストベーコ株式会社で30年間働きました。同社に在籍中、ミード社の持続可能なコンプライアンスの取り組みを含む、多くの主要な取り組みを展開・指導しました。

アメリカとカナダにおける第一の森林認証システムである、「持続可能な林業イニシアティブ(SFI)」の開発中に、いくつかの重要な役割を果たしました。2018年には、シャロンG・ヘインズ記念アワード 持続可能性におけるイノベーションとリーダーシップ賞 (Sharon G. Haines Memorial Award for Innovation and Leadership in Sustainability)を受賞しました。

『Guide to Sustainable Procurement of Forest Fiber and Forest Products(木材繊維と林産物の持続可能な獲得のためのガイド)』の共著者であり、世界資源研究所持続可能な開発のための世界経済人会議(WBCSD)の協力関係、そして、PEFC森林認証プログラムの国際理事も務めました。

SACとエイプリル社に対するローソン氏の非常な貢献を振り返り、エイプリル・グループのプラヴィーン・シンハヴィ社長は、「ジョーは、彼の経験、洞察、主体的観点により、多大な働きをしてくれました。ジョーは、異なるバックグラウンドや見解を持つSACのメンバーたちのダイナミック・バランスをどのように維持するか、また、様々な利害関係者との関わり合いにおいても、常に多様な意見に耳を貸し理解に努めました」。

Particular waste types as described above are measured as a wet waste and converted to a bone dry (BD) weight. The emissions boundary scope covers gate-to-gate (wood processing in wood yard until pulp, paper and viscose production) of the three main GHGs: CO2, CH4, and N2O.

Method

To quantify the total GHG emission and removals across APRIL’s land bank from land use, APRIL follows the GHG Protocol Agricultural Guidance and IPCC Guidelines for Agricultural, Forestry, and Other Land Use. To detect the land cover change within the look-back period, i.e. 20 years APRIL utilized the remotely sensed data.

The GHG emission will be calculated as the total of carbon stock changes in woody biomass and soil organic carbon and include all major carbon fluxes such as peat decomposition, plantation growth and harvesting, and fires.

To quantify the amount of carbon unit to balance the emission, the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standards (CCB), or other internationally accepted standard will be used.
