リアウ生態系回復(RER) プロジェクトの新しい報告書「カンパール半島の鳥類:注釈付きチェックリスト」が発行されました。この報告書は、カンパール半島の泥炭地回復林エリアとその周辺に生息する希少および絶滅危機にある鳥類299種について詳しく記述しています。その中には、国際自然保護連合(IUCN)絶滅危惧種レッドリストに入っている絶滅寸前種オナガサイチョウ(Rhinoplax vigil)も含まれています。

チェックリストはRERの生態学研究者が作成する資料シリーズの一つで、2017年6月の時点で確認された全ての鳥類に関する記録となっています。カンパール半島の鳥類に関する初めての記録であり、リアウ州の鳥類に関するベンチマーク資料となります。

チェックリストは、2010年から実施されてきた複数の生物種多様性評価の結果をまとめたもので、一帯において特定された鳥類の種数が大きく増加していることが示唆されています。2004年のバードライフ・インターナショナルによる調査では全地球的に絶滅の恐れがあるとIUCNにより分類されている5種を含めて128種の鳥類が確認されており、カンパール半島は重要野鳥生息地(IBA)にリストされています。

カギハシヒヨドリ

生息が確認された299種の中には、絶滅寸前種のオナガサイチョウのほか、IUCNにより絶滅危惧種に分類されている3種‐ハジロモリガモ(Asarcornis scutulata)、シロトキコウ(Mycteria cinerea)、およびスンダエンビコウ(Ciconia stormi)-が含まれています。また、カギハシヒヨドリ(Setornis criniger)、ウォーレスクマタカ(Nisaetus nanus)、ノドジロヨタカ(Caprimulgus concretus)、およびマレーウチワキジ(Lophura erythrophthalma)など、絶滅危惧種に分類されている10種も生息が確認されました。

確認された鳥類の80%以上は留鳥であり、残りは渡り鳥です。

希少または絶滅危機種に分類される鳥類は増える一方です。面積およそ344,000 haのカンパール半島は、これらの鳥類の安住の生息地であり、スマトラ島の低地地方泥炭湿地に今もなお残る最大の連続的エリアとみなされています。多様な景観が広がる一帯には、インドネシアにおける最大の連続的生態系回復許諾エリアであり、RERプロジェクトの一部となっている半島中心部の129,357haも含まれています。

周辺には水辺、混合泥炭湿地、中木(pole)エリアなど多様な景観がミックスした一帯が広がり、そのなかに油ヤシ、ゴム、木繊維の産業プランテーション、小規模プランテーション、農地、集落が点在しています。

スンダエンビコウ

ハジロモリガモやスンダエンビコウなどの鳥類の復活は、バードライフ・インターナショナルの報告書に指摘された脅威‐‐森林伐採、石油や石炭採掘のための産業・インフラ開発など‐‐-は大きく軽減されていることを示唆するものです。伐採ゼロと持続可能な森林管理ポリシーへのコミットメントの外、2015年のRERプロジェクトエリアの大幅な面積拡大が、鳥類が繁栄可能な環境の創出に貢献しています。

もう一つの重要なファクターは、カンパール半島では2015年以降、火災や不法侵犯が発生していないことです。これは、エイプリル社のファイアー・フリー・ヴィレッジ・プログラム(FFVP)をはじめとするコミュニティレベル火災防止イニシアチブの成果です。FFVPは、カンパール半島周辺エリアのコミュニティとの協働により成果を上げてきました。

Particular waste types as described above are measured as a wet waste and converted to a bone dry (BD) weight. APRIL follows the international GHG protocol as developed by WRI/WBCSD to develop its emissions profile. The total emissions measured as emissions intensity is calculated based on tonnes of Scope 1 and 2 Mill Greenhouse Gas Emissions per tonne of product (paper, pulp and viscose). The emissions boundary scope covers gate-to-gate (wood processing in wood yard until pulp, paper and viscose production) of the three main GHGs: CO2, CH4, and N2O.

Method

To quantify the total GHG emission and removals across APRIL’s land bank from land use, APRIL follows the GHG Protocol Agricultural Guidance and IPCC Guidelines for Agricultural, Forestry, and Other Land Use. To detect the land cover change within the look-back period, i.e. 20 years APRIL utilized the remotely sensed data.

The GHG emission will be calculated as the total of carbon stock changes in woody biomass and soil organic carbon and include all major carbon fluxes such as peat decomposition, plantation growth and harvesting, and fires.

To quantify the amount of carbon unit to balance the emission, the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standards (CCB), or other internationally accepted standard will be used.
