APRIL telah mengidentifikasi tujuh dari Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (SDGs) PBB sebagai tujuan prioritas mereka, setelah menganalisa secara mendalam kontribusi sosial dan ekonomi operasional mereka selama ini terhadap Provinsi Riau, Indonesia.

Analisis dilakukan oleh APRIL bersama dengan lembaga konsultan Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) untuk menghasilkan laporan yang berupa metodologi penyusunan prioritas dan rekomendasi penetapan Priority Goals. Laporan ini sekaligus menandai penyelesaian fase pertama dari keseluruhan proyek yang bertujuan untuk mengukur dampak operasi APRIL dengan menggunakan SDGs sebagai kerangkanya.

Produksi dan Konsumsi Bertanggung Jawab (Tujuan 12), Aksi Iklim (Tujuan 13), dan Kehidupan di Darat (Tujuan 15) dipilih oleh APRIL sebagai Core Goals, atau tujuan yang memiliki keselarasan dengan operasi perusahaan secara langsung dan komitmen keberlanjutan perusahaan, dan yang dapat memberikan dampak terbesar pada tingkat lokal, nasional, dan internasional.

Tujuan-tujuan ini dianggap sebagai Catalytic Goals, dimana APRIL dapat memberikan dampak eksponensial kepada masyarakat setempat. Tujuan tersebut adalah: Kesehatan dan Kesejahteraaan yang Baik (Tujuan 3); Pendidikan Berkualitas (Tujuan 4); Air dan Sanitasi Bersih (Tujuan 6); dan Kemitraan untuk Mencapai Tujuan (Tujuan 17).

Analisis PwC untuk mencapai kepada Priority Goals mencakup program masyarakat, operasi, dan investasi yang dilakukan APRIL saat ini, serta keterlibatan dengan kelompok pemangku kepentingan yang luas, termasuk perwakilan masyarakat, dengan menggunakan SDGs sebagai kerangka acuan. Fase selanjutnya akan melibatkan pengembangan kerangka kerja untuk mengukur dampak dasar APRIL kepada target tertentu dibawah tujuan prioritas tersebut.

Tahap terakhir dalam proyek ini merupakan laporan mengenai pengukuran dampak yang akan membantu memandu investasi dan strategi kedepannya.

Program Pembangunan Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa (UNDP) Indonesia terlibat dalam proyek ini sebagai anggota kunci dari komite pengarah, yang mengawasi proses untuk memastikan keselarasan dengan prioritas Pemerintah lokal dan nasional. Proyek ini juga melengkapi kolaborasi perusahaan dengan UNDP dan pemerintah provinsi Riau, untuk melokalkan implementasi SDG di tiga kabupaten di Provinsi Riau, yang di dukung oleh Tanoto Foundation.

“Bisnis memiliki peran dalam mencapai agenda pembangunan 2030 di Indonesia. Inisiatif ini membantu pengembangan kerangka kerja sama yang menyatu guna membentuk, mengukur, dan melaporkan kontribusi kami terhadap pembangunan berkelanjutan di Riau dan Indonesia,” jelas Sihol Aritonang, Direktur Utama PT. Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper, unit bisnis dari Grup APRIL.

“SDGs memungkinkan kami untuk menghubungkan strategi dan kontribusi kami dengan prioritas global dan nasional dan secara bersamaan menerjemahkan mereka ke dalam tindakan dan manfaat di lapangan di tingkat masyarakat atau desa,” tambahnya.

Laporan Fase 1a, yang dapat dilihat disini, dipresentasikan pada acara Kamar Dagang dan Industri Indonesia (KADIN) di Jakarta bulan Maret lalu.

Bayu Krisnamurthi, Kepala Jaringan SDGs Institut Pertanian Bogor, yang turut berbicara dalam acara tersebut, menyoroti inisiatif Pemerintah Indonesia dalam mengeluarkan Keputusan Presiden No.59 / 2017 tentang tujuan pembangunan berkelanjutan. “Pemerintah telah menyiapkan platform. Sekarang saatnya bagi perusahaan untuk lebih proaktif dalam mengimplementasikan SDGs. Saya yakin kami bisa bekerja sama dengan sektor potensial untuk mewujudkan agenda global ini,” pungkasnya.

Shinta Kamdani, Wakil Ketua Hubungan Internasional KADIN, mengatakan bahwa sektor swasta memegang peran penting dalam membantu Indonesia mencapai SDGs. “Rencana-rencana hanya dapat diwujudkan dengan keterlibatan aktif pemerintah, perusahaan, akademisi, dan organisasi non-pemerintah. Inisiatif dan langkah konkret yang diambil oleh perusahaan swasta menunjukkan bahwa SDGs dan bisnis dapat hidup berdampingan, dan bahkan membantu perusahaan tumbuh,” tutupnya.

Waste disposed is recorded through various means of measurement including estimation of weight by waste type. Particular waste types as described above are measured as a wet waste and converted to a bone dry (BD) weight. The wet waste weight is multiplied by the consistency of each waste type to determine the BD. The consistency is predetermined by the lab.

The total emissions measured as emissions intensity is calculated based on tonnes of Scope 1 and 2 Mill Greenhouse Gas Emissions per tonne of product (paper, pulp and viscose). The emissions boundary scope covers gate-to-gate (wood processing in wood yard until pulp, paper and viscose production) of the three main GHGs: CO2, CH4, and N2O.

Method

To quantify the total GHG emission and removals across APRIL’s land bank from land use, APRIL follows the GHG Protocol Agricultural Guidance and IPCC Guidelines for Agricultural, Forestry, and Other Land Use. To detect the land cover change within the look-back period, i.e. 20 years APRIL utilized the remotely sensed data.

The GHG emission will be calculated as the total of carbon stock changes in woody biomass and soil organic carbon and include all major carbon fluxes such as peat decomposition, plantation growth and harvesting, and fires.

To quantify the amount of carbon unit to balance the emission, the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standards (CCB), or other internationally accepted standard will be used.
