いつもにこやかなイツナ・ラティファ・ラズマレッティとスリ・ワーディニ・ラーミ――二人の微笑と柔らかな物腰の陰には、世界最大のパルプ・製紙企業でキャリアの階段を上るために必要な気骨と野心とリーダーとしての素質が隠れているのです。

伝統的に男性支配が続いてきた林業界で、二人の女性は、10年も経たずして確たる足場を築きました。エイプリル社事業ユニットの一つ、リアウ州の地方部で事業展開するPT.リアウ・アンダラン・パルプ製紙(RAPP)で、イツナは技術部工程・パルプ製品品質評価責任者、スリは連続的改善推進課と、ともに中級管理職の職責を担っています。

エイプリル社は、インドネシア最大のパルプ・製紙製造企業として、インドネシア政府の持続可能な開発目標(SDG)実現に貢献すべく尽力しています。

SDGは、あらゆる形態の貧困をなくし、不平等と闘い、気候変動に取り組むことを約定する国連加盟国が採択している向こう15年に関するアジェンダの目標・標的・指標です。

イツナは製造品質戦略の責任者であり、スリの仕事は様々な部門の労働生産性と効率水準が満たされていることをチェックすることです。イツナは、30人の技術者のチーム(メンバーは男性が若干女性よりも多い)を率い、スリは同僚4人のリーダーです。

現在のエイプリル社は男性従業員が89%を占めています。まさに、国連国連食糧農業機関(FAO)の指摘する「全世界の林業の男性支配状況」そのままです。

リアウ州ペララワン地方の辺鄙な地域に位置するPT.RAPPは、エイプリル社に対し、地方のスキル向上のためのオンサイト・トレーニングセンターの設立とプログラム実施、ならびにローカル労働力の雇用拡大に努めるよう働きかけてきました。

イツナとスリ、二人の女性のエイプリル社におけるキャリアはよく似ています。二人とも大学で化学を専し、卒業後に実習生として入社しました。大学卒業実習生プログラムを修了した2年後、二人はタイのバンコクにあるアジア技術研究所の修士プログラム受講生として選抜されました。

二人の航路は決して平穏ではなく、それぞれに難題に直面しました。イツナは、夜間勤務のある娘の身の安全を心配した母親から会社を辞めるよう懇願されたと語ります。

「最初のころ、夜間勤務は午後11時~午前7時で、母は私の安全を心配したのでした。母の心配は理解できます」と、35歳になるイツナは続けます:「当時は夜間勤務に就く女性は多くありませんでしたが、警備員もいて、危険を感じたことはありませんでした。」

スリが直面したのは、女性の役割に関する文化的認識という問題でした。「私の仕事は、調整や指示を出すことが多いのですが、男性の中には女から指示を受けることを受け入れられない人もいました。」

「ですから、時間をかけて信頼を構築することに努めました。私が自分の職務にふさわしい能力を持つこと、協力関係を築こうと思っていること、常に手助けするつもりでいることを、はっきりと示しました」とスリは語ります。

同じように、イツナも男性の同僚の信頼を得ることが大変だったと振り返ります:「初めのころは議事録作成も引き受けました。自分が真剣であり協力的であることを証明するためでしたが、同時に、それは私自身が仕事を覚えたかったからでもあります。」

イツナもスリも、汚れ仕事――現場でのサンプル採取や計装チェックのために靴が汚れること――をためらいませんでした。

イツナは言います:「技術者と話し合うよう努めました。彼らの抱える問題点を理解し、私が彼らの問題に関心を持つことをわかってもらうためです。これは有効でした。結局のところ、パルプ産業は人間によって成り立っているのであり、よりよい人間関係の構築が重要なのです。」

今日、パルプ・製紙業界では女性の進出が増えています。「よい傾向です。女性は男性とは違うスキルを持ち、男性よりも細部に徹底的にこだわる傾向があります。男性と女性のスキルは相互補完しあうものです」と、スリ(34)は指摘します。

実際、イツナとスリが女性リーダーとして成功し尊敬を勝ち取れた理由は、彼女たちの仕事に対する熱意だけではありません。今の二人があるのは、常に学ぼうとする姿勢、そして競争の激しい林業界において有能なマネージャーであることを実証したいという強い決意があったからです。

Method

To quantify the total GHG emission and removals across APRIL’s land bank from land use, APRIL follows the GHG Protocol Agricultural Guidance and IPCC Guidelines for Agricultural, Forestry, and Other Land Use. To detect the land cover change within the look-back period, i.e. 20 years APRIL utilized the remotely sensed data.

The GHG emission will be calculated as the total of carbon stock changes in woody biomass and soil organic carbon and include all major carbon fluxes such as peat decomposition, plantation growth and harvesting, and fires.

To quantify the amount of carbon unit to balance the emission, the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standards (CCB), or other internationally accepted standard will be used.
