Seperti yang kita semua sadari, kawasan lahan gambut di Indonesia adalah ekosistem sensitif, sedangkan bentang alam Semenanjung Kampar merupakan salah satu kawasan lahan gambut terbesar di Asia Tenggara.

Pada kunjungan terakhir saya di sana, saya melihat sendiri keanekaragaman hayati yang kaya secara efektif dilindungi dan dipulihkan di lokasi Restorasi Ekosistem Riau (RER).

Namun, itu tidak selalu seperti itu. Sampai 2013, tebang pilih telah merusak kawasan hutan Semenanjung Kampar dan ekosistem yang rapuh ini juga terancam oleh perambahan ilegal dan kebakaran.

Diluncurkan pada tahun 2013, RER adalah program jangka panjang dengan tujuan memulihkan lanskap lahan gambut yang penting secara ekologis di Semenanjung Kampar di Provinsi Riau, Indonesia. Sejak itu, program telah berkembang dari 20.000 hektar menjadi lebih dari 70.000 hektar.

Di bawah ijin eco-restorasi dari Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan, kami bekerja sama dengan mitra kami untuk melindungi, menilai, memulihkan dan kemudian mengelola bentang alam penting ini serta bekerja dengan masyarakat setempat.

Saya sering ditanya tentang motivasi di balik program ini; terdapat motivasi lingkungan maupun komersial. Program ini adalah tindakan tepat untuk bentang alam Kampar; terdapat faedah jangka panjang untuk melindungi kubah gambut Kampar.

RER juga memberikan kontribusi pada upaya keberlanjutan kami, mendiversifikasi pasar kerja lokal, memberikan alternatif pada pertanian melalui ekosistem usaha kecil yang tumbuh di sekitar program. Ini membantu untuk mengatasi deforestasi, sedangkan jasa lingkungan itu memberikan manfaat air, oksigen dan kekayaan satwa liar.

Selain dampak lingkungan, kami percaya terdapat manfaat bisnis yang kuat untuk konservasi lahan gambut dan restorasi sebagai bagian dari model kehutanan yang berkelanjutan.

Bisnis kami adalah bagian dari lanskap yang ada dan kami dan menyesuaikan dengan kondisi bentang alam, daripada mengharapkan lanskap agar sesuai di sekitar bisnis kami. Ini juga berarti bahwa kami perlu untuk berkolaborasi dengan semua pihak dalam bentang alam dan mengakomodasi semua kepentingan.

RER menitik beratkan pada kolaborasi dan pendekatan bentang alam yang mengakomodir berbagai perspektif untuk mencapai keseimbangan antara banyak tujuan – dari lingkungan ke masyarakat sampai ekonomi. Kami pikir pendekatan kolaboratif ini sangat penting untuk keberlanjutan kehutanan jangka panjang di Indonesia.

Singkatnya, saya percaya RER memberi dampak positif bagi masyarakat, negara, dan perusahaan. Mitra kami mengakui bahwa RER adalah contoh yang baik atas kolaborasi organisasi sektor publik dan swasta yang bekerja menuju kemitraan dan visi yang kuat.

Harapan saya, RER dan penerapan pendekatan bentang alam dapat direplikasi di seluruh kawasan konservasi dan saya berharap, berkembang menjadi praktek yang terbaik untuk pihak lain untuk ditiru.

Method

Waste disposed is recorded through various means of measurement including estimation of weight by waste type. Particular waste types as described above are measured as a wet waste and converted to a bone dry (BD) weight. The wet waste weight is multiplied by the consistency of each waste type to determine the BD. The consistency is predetermined by the lab.

APRIL follows the international GHG protocol as developed by WRI/WBCSD to develop its emissions profile. The total emissions measured as emissions intensity is calculated based on tonnes of Scope 1 and 2 Mill Greenhouse Gas Emissions per tonne of product (paper, pulp and viscose). The emissions boundary scope covers gate-to-gate (wood processing in wood yard until pulp, paper and viscose production) of the three main GHGs: CO2, CH4, and N2O.

Method

To quantify the total GHG emission and removals across APRIL’s land bank from land use, APRIL follows the GHG Protocol Agricultural Guidance and IPCC Guidelines for Agricultural, Forestry, and Other Land Use. To detect the land cover change within the look-back period, i.e. 20 years APRIL utilized the remotely sensed data.

The GHG emission will be calculated as the total of carbon stock changes in woody biomass and soil organic carbon and include all major carbon fluxes such as peat decomposition, plantation growth and harvesting, and fires.

To quantify the amount of carbon unit to balance the emission, the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standards (CCB), or other internationally accepted standard will be used.
