APRIL Group marked the announcement of its partnership with Singapore\u2019s National Parks Board (NParks) with a community shrub-planting event at Singapore\u2019s Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park this week, enhancing the Butterfly Habitat as part of APRIL Group\u2019s contribution to Singapore\u2019s Jubilee.<\/p>\n

This effort to enhance the Butterfly Habitat at the park forms part of APRIL Group\u2019s five-year sponsorship of S$100,000 to NParks through its registered charity. The APRIL-NParks partnership includes putting in place educational signage for the enhanced Butterfly Habitat, as well as the planting of 250 trees in the park later this year.<\/p>\n

Friday morning\u2019s event was hosted by APRIL Group Chairman, Bey Soo Khiang, and attended by representatives from NParks, local school children and delegates from the ASEAN Power Shift 2015 conference, as well as Mrs Josephine Teo, Member of Parliament for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC and Senior Minister of State for Finance and Transport, who graced the event as Guest-of-Honour.<\/p>\n

Together more than 300 shrubs were planted, creating a natural and thriving environment for butterflies to breed. 15 new plant species were added with the objective of attracting five-to-seven more butterfly species to the biodiversity of the current habitat.<\/p>\n

The enhanced butterfly habitat will support urban biodiversity and provide a nurturing habitat for butterfly, dragonfly and even birds to grow in the heart of Singapore. It will also be a natural environment for learning, including APRIL\u2019s schools programme –\u00a0\u2018The Fascinating World of Forestry\u2122<\/a>\u2019 –\u00a0where students are engaged and educated on the need to manage our environment and resources responsibly, so that we can all enjoy the tree based products made sustainably for generations to come.<\/p>\n

The partnership is an extension of APRIL Group\u2019s commitment to conservation and community engagement and is a particularly meaningful way for the Singapore headquartered company to jointly mark an important milestone in Singapore\u2019s history through greening and enhancing the biodiversity of Singapore.<\/p>\n

APRIL Group was also pleased to share the event with young environmentalists from 10 Southeast Asia nations in Singapore for ASEAN Power Shift 2015, the inaugural ASEAN youth climate change conference. The presence of this next generation of leaders reminds us that environmental concerns are regional and multi-faceted. These are young leaders who have the job of continuing with our journey towards a sustainable future.<\/p>\n
